The Medical Evaluation Board Results are In

After waiting about a month for my results from the medical evaluation results, I found out that there was actually an exam missing. If you haven’t read the other posts about this process it is a long and confusing one, and this seems to be a common issue within all of the military branches. There is no way to actually track the progress of the board, except for this sheet of paper they give you, and it doesn’t really help.

After checking on Tricare online I could see that all of my results from my exams were there except for the one that was done before all this started, my sleep study. Realizing that the sleep center never sent my results to QTC as I asked them to do, I gave them a call and they were able to quickly email the results. QTC received the results and about a week later I saw that there was finally some movement on the VA’s website with my results.

I know I said previously that you can’t really track what is happening, and while this is mainly true you can see slight progress on when things are uploaded into the government websites. Now what I saw change was the dates on the site, and there was a new tab that opened up labeled closed. In this closed tab, it said that everything was turned in and that the results were being mailed to me in seven to ten business days.

After waiting about a day I decided to give the VA a call and see if they were able to just tell me the results. While they aren’t supposed to do this, the guy on the line was really nice and said because of covid the results were taking a lot longer to mail out. So with this information in mind, he told me he would be able to secure email them to me. About ten minutes later I was able to access my results and I was blown away with what they were. Never in a million years did I think I would have been rated the way I was.

Now before I give you my results let me explain what they will mean. If someone is to get a 30% DoD rating, this means that they will receive a medical retirement. This will give anyone with less than 20 years base access, Tricare for life, and all the other benefits that come with retirement. The only thing you would not receive is the pension paychecks. And depending on what the VA rating is you have the option of insurance through the VA as well as the monthly tax-free payments.

So, with a DoD rating of 40% and a VA rating of 100%, I will be officially retired next year. Come 10 March 2022 my time in the United States Air Force will come to an end after 10 years and 6 months. I have gotten to travel the world, met my amazing and beautiful wife, and had an awesome little baby boy. I have made some lifelong friends, and the experiences will live with me forever.

Catch up on the whole journey below.
